Create ZIP archives without installing anything

This ZIP creator packs any number of files, or entire folders, into a single .zip archive that opens on Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS without extra software. Drag a folder from your file manager onto the drop area and its full structure is preserved inside the archive, including sub-folders. You can also mix loose files from different places; if two files share the same name, the second one is renamed automatically so nothing is overwritten. The list shows the path each file will have inside the ZIP and its size, and any row can be removed before you build the archive.

Files are compressed with the Deflate algorithm used by every ZIP program. The level slider trades speed for size: level 1 is very quick, level 9 is the smallest, and level 0 simply stores the data. Because formats such as JPEG, MP4, MP3 and PDF are already compressed, the tool can store them as-is while still compressing documents, code and text — the resulting archive is almost the same size, but it is created far faster.

Clean archives with exclude patterns

Operating systems and development tools leave behind files you rarely want to share: .DS_Store and __MACOSX on a Mac, Thumbs.db and desktop.ini on Windows, or huge node_modules and .git folders in a project. Add them to the exclude box as a comma-separated list, using * and ? as wildcards, and they are skipped. The file list updates live, crossing out everything that will be left out, so you can check the result before zipping.

Private by design

Online ZIP services usually upload your files, compress them on a server and send the archive back. Here the whole process runs locally in your browser tab: files are read in chunks from your disk, compressed on your own processor and assembled into a ZIP that is handed straight to your downloads folder. That makes it safe for contracts, photos and source code, and it is often quicker than uploading because nothing crosses the network. When the ZIP is ready you see the original and compressed sizes and the percentage saved.

How to use

  1. Add files or foldersDrop files and whole folders onto the box, click it to pick files, or use “Add a folder…” to choose a directory.
  2. Choose the optionsSet the compression level, adjust the exclude patterns (for example .DS_Store or node_modules) and name the ZIP.
  3. Create the ZIPClick Create ZIP and watch the progress bar. You can cancel at any time.
  4. DownloadThe ZIP downloads automatically; the result box shows the size saved and lets you download it again.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. The ZIP is built by JavaScript running in your browser, reading the files straight from your disk. Nothing leaves your device, so it also works offline once the page has loaded.
Which compression level should I use?
Level 6 is a good balance of speed and size. Level 9 squeezes a few more percent out of text and code, while level 0 only stores the files, which is fastest and useful for photos or videos that are already compressed.
Why is my ZIP barely smaller than the original files?
JPEG, PNG, MP4, MP3, PDF and other ZIPs are already compressed, so deflating them again gains almost nothing. With “Store already-compressed files” enabled they are simply stored, which makes creating the ZIP much faster.
How do the exclude patterns work?
Enter comma-separated names or wildcards. A pattern without a slash, such as node_modules or *.tmp, matches that name in any folder. A pattern with a slash, such as build/*.map, matches from the top of the ZIP. Excluded files are crossed out in the list.
Is there a size limit?
This tool writes standard ZIP files, which hold up to 65,535 files and 4 GB in total. The finished ZIP is kept in memory until it downloads, so very large sets depend on your device's available RAM.
